Employees To Vote On Representation Tuesday, April 7 Employees of aU of the Company’s North Carolina mills will vote Tuesday, April 7, in an election conducted by the National Labor Relations Board to de termine whether the employees wish to be represented by the TWUA-CIO, the UTW-AFL, or whether they prefer to deal directly with the management on matters of wages, hours and conditions of employment. The ballot will carry the three choices; CIO, AFL and no union. All of the plants in the Tri-Cities will vote as a unit and the over-all vote will determine the outcome. A schedule of the hours for voting and locations of the voting booths will be posted in the mills. The election resulted from a dispute that has existed between the two unions since May, 1952. A petition for representation was filed some time ago by the UTW-AFL. Based on this peti tion a hearing was had and an election ordered. Consistent with the policy of the Company since the employees’ publica tion was established more than 10 years ago, the MILL WHISTLE will not be used in the controversy.
